Did you know: 76% of older people say arts and culture is important in making them feel happy? Watch the film & share with someone you know. #culturematters

I set up the  Grand Gestures Dance Collective (GGDC) specifically to develop my choreographic practice and to develop the creative aspirations of older dancers who were interested in pushing the boundaries of dance for "elders".

Fabulous that  Arts Council filmed members of GGDC performing Sense, a piece I choreographed for them to take to  "Vital.....A Celebration Of Dance" at the Bluecoats Centre in Liverpool. The piece explored sense and sensuality and sought to raise questions about age, sensuality and visibility. Really good to see the resulting film on the Arts Council Facebook & Twitter pages this week. The Arts Council video also interviewed the dancers about what dance means to them.....

"I’d never been involved with performance arts before but I've become totally hooked"
"Being inspired in your own feelings and your own dancing, you can express yourself even if nobody knows what on earth you’re thinking. We lose ourselves. I felt young again"
It is so important to me and members of the collective that we continue to create  opportunities to make work , to ask questions about who gets to dance and  to offer an alternative to instrumentalist approaches to arts for older people.
